Tobacco Control Alliance
The Smoke Free Essex
Tobacco Control Alliance was launched in November 2004 and comprises
of members from Health, Local Authorities – Environmental
Health, Trading Standards, HM Prison Service and the Council for
Voluntary Service.
Its aims are
to:
- Reduce the uptake
of tobacco use and promote Stop Smoking Support Services to the
public;
- Educate and inform
the residents of Essex so that they are equipped to make healthy
choices;
- Reduce the exposure
of secondary smoke within the workplace and residential living;
- Continue to work
with businesses on the issue of exposure to secondary smoke in
the workplace.
Proposed activity
for 2007/8:
- To hold a “One
year on ” conference for business in Essex to explore enforcement
of the smoking legislation and address emerging issues;
- Reduction in smoking
prevalence in adults to 21% by 2009 with a focus on the more disadvantaged
areas;
- Reduction in smoking
prevalence in the < 18s and to promote the increased age limit
of 18 to retailers to legally sell tobacco products.
